Primary Years Programme

We are HUS!

Primary Years Programme

At HUS, the PYP supports teaching and learning within the six principal curriculum areas: languages, social studies, mathematics, arts, science, and personal, social and physical education.
The six transdisciplinary themes in the programme of inquiry lead to an in-depth investigation where the students have a high level of involvement in their learning. Students see the relevance of the content and make connections to their world and beyond.

A Unit of Inquiry usually lasts for about six weeks along one of the transdisciplinary themes culmination in the Joy of Learning which is the celebration of the teaching and learning that has occurred.
Each day is an opportunity for our HUS students to explore the world around us in meaningful ways, where they are motivated to investigate the central ideas in a global context engaging them in an increasingly globalized and rapidly changing world.
As part of language acquisition HUS offers Tamil, Hindi, Spanish and French, each for twelve weeks where our students are exposed to various aspects of cultures around the world.

international baccalaureate

The International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Programme is a curriculum framework designed for students aged 6 to 12 that focuses on the transdisciplinary framework of the development of the whole child as an inquirer, both at school and beyond.
An aim of the PYP is to create a transdisciplinary curriculum that is engaging, relevant, challenging and significant for learners in the 6–12 age range. In developing a curriculum of international education for primary school students, the PYP definition of curriculum is broad and inclusive. In the PYP, students learn how to think for themselves and take responsibility for their own learning through an inquiry-led approach.

The International Baccalaureate® (IB) Primary Years Programme (PYP) is underpinned by six transdisciplinary themes around which learning is planned.
These are:
• Who we are
• Where we are in place and time
• How we express ourselves
• How the world works
• How we organize ourselves
• Sharing the planet
